In this workshop you will learn how to embody the most common rhythms and percussive sounds we find in our music.

Drumming for Dancers Workshop
5:30 - 7pm EST
Learn the basics of Arabic drumming. Taught by a dancer, especially for dancers!
No prior drumming experience is necessary.
We will cover:
You will need a drum, but we will have lots of extra drums for people who don't have one
Here are some possible drums you can bring, in order of preference
If you have multiple drums and would like to share, you can bring more than one.
5:30-6:30pm - Lesson
6:30-7pm - Drum circle, content creation* and short break
5:30 - 7pm EST

We will cover:
- Techniques to play the basic sounds
- Common rhythms in belly dance music
- Common drum solo patterns
- Variations for multiple skill levels
You will need a drum, but we will have lots of extra drums for people who don't have one
Here are some possible drums you can bring, in order of preference
- A darbuka (also known as doumbek, or Egyptian tabla)
- A frame drum
- A djembe (not traditionally used, but we can make it work)
- Any other hand drum
- Anything that you can bang on
If you have multiple drums and would like to share, you can bring more than one.

Dancing with Drummers Workshop
7 - 8:30pm EST
Now learn how to dance to those drum beats you learned to play!
No prior dancing experience is necessary.
We will cover:

7 - 8:30pm EST
Now learn how to dance to those drum beats you learned to play!
No prior dancing experience is necessary.
We will cover:
- Percussive belly dance techniques
- Dancing to common rhythms & sounds
- Dancing with live drumming
- Variations for multiple experience levels
7-8pm - Lesson
8-8:30pm - Drum & dance circle and content creation*
*During the content creation portions at the end of each workshop, a professional photographer will take photos and videos for marketing purposes.
