Raqs Sharqi Class Drum Solo Choreography & Improvisation (level 3)
Wednesdays, 8 - 9:15pm EST
Raqs sharqi (رقص شرقي, also spelled "raks sharki") is the classical style of dance that arose in Egypt since the early 1900s, influencing dance all over the Middle East before spreading across the world.
Commonly known in the West as "belly dance," this art form blends baladi, ghawazee and other Middle Eastern folk dances with Western influences from ballroom dance, ballet and orientalist art.
If you have previous raqs sharqi (belly dance) experience and would like to delve deeper into the art form, our ongoing level 3 online classes are perfect for you.
This month all our Level 3 Raqs Sharqi classes will be dedicated to drum solos, with a special focus on Choreography and Improvisation. Expect to learn:
Middle Eastern rhythms and darbuka sounds
Advanced techniques for drum solo interpretation
How to develop improvisational skills
This class airs live over Zoom video conference on the following Wednesdays at 8pm EST: September 9, 16, 23, 30.
This class is kept small so I can watch everyone and give feedback. Sign up soon to claim your spot!
